I agree with all your points, and they’re mostly the same for us! This summer so far (two whole weeks lol) has been a bit of a struggle, so I need to set up some sort of weekly/daily routine to alleviate the fighting. I’m a big fan of letting kids be bored, but lately they’ve just been picking on each other out of boredom and I think they need at least a handful of ideas to get them started. I ordered a new kids’ Bible study to do with them a couple mornings a week, and I think I might have one science experiment day and one dedicated playground morning each week. That’ll at least give them things to look forward to, to break up the summer free for all. But the 3Rs are 100% waiting until September to start up again. 🙌🏻
We do similar summer projects/routines! It’s helpful to have something to keep them busy. You should look up summer movie programs at movie theaters - a lot of theaters will do cheap movies during the summer for kids! We plan for those sometimes to break things up, and whatever other free outings we can find! What Bible study did you get? I’m looking for something for my little girls.
Movies are a good idea - I know of one theater that does that, we go sometimes but a lot of times it’s reruns of movies we aren’t interested in 😅 I got the Not Consumed sibling study!
I agree. I’ve dabbled a little in the past with year round schedules due to travels and whatnot, but I find I like sticking to the traditional calendar best. Plus, the rest of the world operates on the school calendar, so it just makes sense for us.
Same! I’ve never done a year-round schedule - we can still take breaks when we need to throughout the year, it just cuts into the length of our summer break. But I’ve found we really enjoy and need that complete break to refresh!
We are taking a traditional approach to summer break this year too! The past we have done year round due to morning sickness and babies. Ironically I planned for us to have this longer break to enjoy the summer and then found out I’m pregnant 😂 so for the next 8 weeks we will be off school while I puke on the couch.
